Formative Practice 7.1 – Science Form 2 Chapter 7

Question 1:
State the forms of energy that exists in each of the following situations.
(a) Boiling water
(b) A chicken running
(c) Compressed spring

Answer:
(i) Heat energy

(ii) Kinetic energy

(iii) Elastic potential energy

Question 2:
As the clouds move, a lot of electric charges are accumulated by the clouds.

Based on the statement above, explain the occurrence of lightning.

Answer:
The clouds and the air graze each other and cause positive charges to gather on the top part of the cloud and the negative charges gather on the lower part of the cloud. The movement of negative charges from the cloud to the earth causes electricity discharge and produces lightning.

Question 3:
What is the resistance of a car light bulb that conducts 0.025 A current when connected to a 12 V car accumulator? Is the current in the bulb steady?

Answer:
\[ \begin{aligned} R & =\frac{12 \mathrm{~V}}{0.025 \mathrm{~A}} \\ & =480 \Omega \end{aligned} \]
The current produced is steady because it is supplied by voltage from the accumulator.
